History
Zeigler Sumac Mill
- 1825: David Zeigler built his sumac mill
- Mill employed six men and horsepower to crush locally gathered sumac leaves (sumac is a relative of ailanthus, a non-native invasive tree increasingly found in areas of the park)
- Liquid extracted from sumac leaves was used by Tabler's nearby tanning yard to tan animal hides
- The local sumac was far superior to the imported sumac in creating soft leather
- Listed in the Locational Atlas of Historic Sites
