Wildlife
Little Bennett Regional Park's size and protected state together with its extensive, hilly acreage, numerous creeks and wetlands contribute to the exceptional variety of wildlife that make their homes in the Park. A total of 140 different varieties of birds have been identified in the Park as well as dozens of species of mammals, fish and other wildlife. Of special significance in the Park is a large concentration of seasonal (or vernal) pools. These pools are required for frogs, toads, salamanders and other amphibians - fauna that help underpin a healthy ecosystem - to reproduce and thrive. In this section of our website we provide information about the many different forms of wildlife that have been identified in the Park. As you navigate around this section, you will encounter comprehensive lists of each major type of wildlife. As time permits, we will be linking each individual type of fauna on these lists to a website or fact sheet that provides photos and descriptions of that type of wildlife. The Friends of Little Bennett Park wish to thank Rob Gibbs, Natural Resources Manager at the Montgomery County Department of Parks, for providing these lists and helping us improve public awareness about wildlife in Little Bennett Park. |
