Narrative Direction: West from Campground Loop A Access Trail
The Nature Trail is a short trail near the former nature center that is now Hawks Reach Activity Center. It is accessible via short access trails from campground loops A, B and D.
The short loop trial is heavily shaded throughout its passage through mature hardwoods. Two wooden bridges at the eastern and western ends of the loop trail cross over a small intermittent creek that bisects the loop. One of these bridges is depicted below.
Ground cedar and a sometimes mossy underfooting are found along portions of the trail while the creek presence helps promote the growth of numerous ferns.
Whitetail Trail branches off Nature Center Trail into the interior of the Park.
NOTE: The Nature Trail is located close to the Park's campground near the Hawks Reach Activity Center. At one time Hawks Reach was classified as a nature center, but that function was transferred to Black Hills Regional Park Visitor Center when that facility was opened. The Little Bennett Park Master Plan calls for the construction of a nature center off of MD 355 but funds have not yet been budgeted for it.
