History
Lewisdale
- Lewisdale is a small community located on the north side of Little Bennett Park. The Browning, Day and Norwood farms were at one time considered part of Lewisdale, and typify the many farms dotting the rolling fields that characterize the community which is part of the County's Agriculture Reserve.
- Jeremiah Lewis operated a store to serve the local farm community, and was named the town's first postmaster. As was the frequent custom in those days, the community served by the new post office came to be known as 'Lewisdale.'
- Later, Web Beall's store on the corner of Clarksburg Road and Prices Distillery Road served as the merchant center of the community, and also housed the post office.
- In the latter part of the 19th century, Lewisdale children were educated in the community's Light Hill Schoolhouse, a little north of Beall's store on Clarksburg Road. When that school closed in 1900, it was replaced by the Lewisdale School which was built on Price's Distillery Road. The community's students were taught at this school until it closed in 1935.
- The community today is part of Clarksburg, and its residents are served by the Clarksburg post office.
