History

King's Distillery
  • 1865 (or possibly earlier): Site of a sawmill and distillery owned, operated by Luther Green King
  • 1907: Distillery burned down
  • 1971: Last warehouse on the property torn down
  • Whiskey was distilled from locally grown rye and shipped to Baltimore for bottling
  • This was the only whiskey distilling operation in Montgomery County
  • The sign in the photo to the right is no longer standing
  • There is a small area where you can pull your car off Burnt Hill Road, park and walk around the former distillery site but the area is quite heavily overgrown
