Project: New trail construction in Little Bennett Park
Summary
This project would re-route several hundred yards of the northern segment of the Purdum Trail in Little Bennett Park. A new natural surface trail would be constructed to connect the parking lot near Burnt Hill Road to the rest of Purdum Trail and bypass the gravel road now serving this purpose. This project would entail such activities as removing deadfall and debris in the trail corridor; using saws and loppers to trim back live vegetation and digging tools to establish and outslope the tread; blazing the trail with paint; and closing the old bypassed section of the Purdum trail. Parks Dept tools could be used (saws, loppers, rakes etc) though the volunteers might also be asked to provide additional tools.
Background
The Little Bennett Park Master Plan calls for rebuilding portions of the Park’s trail system to make it more sustainable, easier to maintain, and less prone to erosion.
