Charles Browning Farm
  • 1752: Original land patent obtained by William Cecil
  • 1850s: Charles Browning developed a farmstead including a house, bank barn, corncrib/wagon shed, a board and batten summer kitchen and smokehouse
  • 1887: Farm sold to John Harris
  • 1919: Farm sold to Ernest Mullican who added a concrete block dairy barn and milk
  • 1935: Farm sold to Thomas Jefferson Patterson
  • 1972: Farm sold to MNCPPC
  • Originally called Wild Cat Spring for its location along Wild Cat Branch (now Dark Branch), a tributary to Little Bennett Creek
  • The farmhouse (remodeled in the Victorian era) probably originated as a log structure
  • The farm's buildings are representative of a pre-Civil War farmstead and reflect the historic evolution of farming in Montgomery County
  • Listed on the Master Plan for Historic Preservation in Montgomery County
  • The farm buildings can be viewed from Lewisdale Road (the farmhouse is a private residence; the other farm buildings, near the golf course's first tee, can be accessed from the course parking lot)
